Goal of the study
This study will look at how programs and services aimed at removing barriers for people with disabilities can be improved in Indigenous communities.
Success highlights
- Led by the First Nations National Building Officers Association (FNNBOA), the study analyzed the accessibility barriers faced by Indigenous people with disabilities living in remote communities. The study is the first of its kind in Canada.
- The findings will inform and shape future accessibility standards for the built environment for Indigenous communities
- The study successfully engaged 7 Indigenous organizations to recruit 40 participants, ensuring the inclusion of Indigenous voices in addressing accessibility barriers.
- FNNBOA produced a podcast focusing on accessibility in the built environment. The goal of the podcast was to raise awareness of the barriers and possibilities to increase accessibility. It was broadcast to over 300 Indigenous communities through Indigenous radio stations, making it a success.
