Research impact

The research we fund through the Advancing Accessibility Standards Research program plays a direct role in advancing accessibility across Canada. It supports practical solutions that helps identify and remove barriers, and improve everyday experiences for persons with disabilities.

A key strength of this research is that it’s grounded in lived experience. Persons with disabilities are actively involved throughout the research process. The participation of people with lived experience ensures the work reflects real needs and diverse perspectives.

The program also brings together partners across sectors, including:

  • not-for-profit organizations
  • disability organizations
  • Indigenous organizations
  • research or educational institutions (including universities)

Funded research contributes to:

  • advancing evidence-based accessibility standards
  • creating guidance and best practices
  • increasing awareness and understanding of accessibility barriers
  • supporting innovation in accessible design and service delivery

The knowledge gained through funded research informs the development of accessibility standards and technical guides. This leads to practical, lasting change that improves accessibility for persons with disabilities and creates a more inclusive Canada for everyone.
