Career advancement and professional success can often be determined not only through task completion but also through “hidden expectations” in informal social interactions in the workplace. This study will examine how unrecognized social interactions can impact career progression for autistic individuals. It will identify and enhance understanding of employment barriers to inform inclusive employment standards.

This study will review the most recent and relevant information on accessibility in the built environment for people with all types of disabilities. It will also identify existing barriers. 

Understanding User Perspectives of the Speed, Accuracy, and Delay Trade-off for Captioning Fast-Paced Media Content

This study will determine user preferences for live captioning of fast-paced live media. This will be based on feedback from the deaf and hard-of-hearing community.

Unlocking Understanding: Assessing the functional accessibility of plain language in federal government communications

Communication is a fundamental right and an important part of accessing government programs and services. For some people with Level 0-1 literacy, plain language might still be too complicated which can create exclusions. Many people with disabilities face barriers to understanding and engaging with programs and services because of complex language. This study will research the accessibility of plain language communication in government programs and services. It will also explore alternative formats, such as Easy Read documents.

Usability of Digital Information and Information Technology for Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities

People with disabilities face barriers when accessing and participating in the digital world. This study will make recommendations on accessibility standards for information and communication technologies. The goal is to remove barriers for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

Virtual Communication Project

This study will identify the factors that make it harder or easier for people who are Deaf, Hard of Hearing, or Deaf/Blind to communicate. This includes communication that takes place in person, virtually (online), or both (hybrid environment).
