Ensuring Accessibility for Persons with Hidden Mobility Disabilities

This study focuses on people who have limited mobility. This is also known as having a “hidden” mobility disability. Limited mobility means someone is unable to safely walk a distance of more than 15 metres or stand unsupported for more than 1 to 2 minutes. The goal is to find ways to improve their access to federal programs and services.

Environmental Scan on Accessibility Standards in Indigenous Communities

This study will look at how programs and services aimed at removing barriers for people with disabilities can be improved in Indigenous communities.

Success highlights

  • Led by the First Nations National Building Officers Association (FNNBOA), the study analyzed the accessibility barriers faced by Indigenous people with disabilities living in remote communities. The study is the first of its kind in Canada.
  • The findings will inform and shape future accessibility standards for the built environment for Indigenous communities
  • The study successfully engaged 7 Indigenous organizations to recruit 40 participants, ensuring the inclusion of Indigenous voices in addressing accessibility barriers.
  • FNNBOA produced a podcast focusing on accessibility in the built environment. The goal of the podcast was to raise awareness of the barriers and possibilities to increase accessibility. It was broadcast to over 300 Indigenous communities through Indigenous radio stations, making it a success.

Final activity report

This report gives a summary and a self-evaluation of your project results. It shows whether you completed the activities and achieved the results listed in Schedule A of your funding agreement. This includes your project results, and the final numbers on the data you must collect (see the “Reporting on data ” section).

When to submit the form

  • 60 days after the project end date.
    • Your funding agreement indicates the exact date the report is due.
    • We will also send you an email reminder.

Late submissions may affect your funding or project status. If you anticipate a delay, contact us as soon as possible at Recherche.NAC-Research.ASC@asc-nac.gc.ca .

  • Have the form signed by an authorized signatory

First Nations Accessibility Standards: A Path Forward to Inclusion

This study will develop recommendations for removing and preventing barriers. It will look specifically at barriers in the built environment and in current programs and services for people with disabilities in First Nation communities.
